The T64, a turboshaft engine with a maximum power of 3,229 kW (T64-100) for applications on medium-size transport helicopters, such as the Sikorsky CH-53, was built between 1968 and 1975 in cooperation with GE and Kl?ckner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD). MTU’s role in this engine was chiefly assembly and acceptance test work at its Munich location. In all, 247 T64 engines were delivered.
Today, MTU provides repair and maintenance services for the T64. In 2003, the company began a comprehensive modification program to upgrade the T64-7 to the more powerful -100 standard.
